Good Things Jar

good-things-jarDon’t you hate when there’s something that you can’t remember? Or you know it happened but don’t remember when or with who? Well, I came across a really cute idea that I think would be great for families with kids of all ages, and even just adults too.

Take a large jar, and starting at the beginning of the year you will start writing down good or exciting things that have happened to you. You can place these in the jar daily or weekly or however often something exciting pops up. You can include gifts that you’ve received, trips that you’ve gone on, goals that have been accomplished, memories you want to cherish, moments that were too funny to forget and so on. Then on December 31st you and your family will sit down and go through all that has happened over the past year. It is a great way to remember and reminisce on the amazing year that you’ve had together, what new experiences you had and exciting moments that you’ll never forget.

I really like this idea. I even thought about each year after we’ve reviewed our year together to save the pieces of paper and place these all in a folder, and then once your child has grown up, to give it to them. It would make a nice scrap book to present to them on their graduation day, or maybe on their wedding day. It will show them just how many great accomplishments they’ve made.

Each year you can make a new jar, and if you have young children it would be fun to include the year date in the middle of the jar and then have your child decorate the jar. Hand prints, or paintings and even little decorations of things that they like at the time would be fun to glue on your jar. Each year you can watch the improvement of their jar art and another year can be added to your box full of previous ones.

The jars can be made for each child individually or as a family jar. Adults can also make a jar for their job to include on their desk. If you are not able to locate a jar, a box or something similar would be fine as well.

I hope everyone thinks about starting this tradition with their families if they haven’t already, and enjoy the memories you all will make in the upcoming 2014!
